Formulation of compound feeds for blackspot seabream and sole.

The project aims to develop specific feeds for blackspot seabream and sole that are able to meet the nutritional needs of each species and at the same time ensure the quality of the final product. Currently the few fish farms who have dedicated themselves to the cultivation of these species have resorted to diets for gilthead seabream and turbot, which clearly have inappropriate qualities for these new species. The new formulas tested for blackspot seabream already ensure an optimal fish growth and reduced deposition of perivisceral fat. In the case of sole lysine requirements were already were determined, as a first step towards the adjustment of diets with different protein sources. Finally, and considering the feed distribution may also restrict the intake and subsequent growth, it is essential to study the feeding behaviour of the fish using auto and on demand feeders. For blackspot seabream, these self-feeding systems showed excellent results, however sole do not adapt as easily to these systems. With the proposed works, we expect to develop diets able to allow optimal growth and that result in high nutritional quality fish that have, therefore, a high acceptance by the consumer.
